Sirens and Workers Approaching Upstairs

Not stated · Date unknown · contemporary study

Um....I was upstairs in the DH and some sirens started going off, and DH workers started going towards me, the sirens were loud but there were no lights just the sound, I was very confused about the situation. Um....they seemed to be in a rush, and they had like...I could read that they were worried I guess, I'm not sure what they were worried about, that's all.

Another way to look at this dream

Notes on the images in this dream from psychology, myth, folklore and semiotics. Each names its source.

Stars

One star or a whole sky of them? Were they close, and did they make any shape you recognised?

Chinese historiography Classical text

The “Treatise on the Celestial Offices” in the Records of the Grand Historian maps the night sky onto the human world: groups of stars are named as officials of a heavenly court.

Sima Qian, Shiji, “Treatise on the Celestial Offices”

Roman philosophy Philosophy

Scipio, dreaming among the stars, finds them far larger than they look from Earth — the dream is a lesson in how small human glory is from far enough away.

Cicero, De re publica VI (“Dream of Scipio”)

Light

Where did the light come from? What did it let you see — and was anything too bright to look at?

Jung · Lumen naturae

Writing on Paracelsus, Jung took up the old idea of a lumen naturae, a “light of nature” within us that illuminates from the inside rather than from outside authority.

C. G. Jung, “Paracelsus as a Spiritual Phenomenon”, Collected Works 13

Early dream research Dream research

Ellis noted the common claim that light on closed eyes sets off dreams, but said he had no decisive evidence and that eyelids guard sleep well. His own dream of a bright light and a huge shadow came after an evening walk into the setting sun.

Havelock Ellis, The World of Dreams (1911), ch. IV

Hebrew Bible Myth & scripture

The first thing spoken in Genesis is “Let there be light”: light marks the start of an ordered world.

Genesis 1:3

Book

Could you read the book? Did it belong to you, or did someone hand it over?

Hebrew prophets Myth & scripture

In a vision Ezekiel is handed a scroll written inside and out with “lamentations, and mourning, and woe”, told to eat it, and finds it “as honey for sweetness”. Taking a text into the body is how the message is received. (A vision, not a dream.)

Ezekiel 2:9–3:3 (King James Version)

Christian scripture Myth & scripture

In Revelation John is told to take a little book from an angel’s hand and eat it: sweet as honey in the mouth, bitter in the belly. The same book is both. (A vision, not a dream.)

Revelation 10:9–10 (King James Version)
