Powerpuff Girl and Sudden Awakening

Not stated · Date unknown · contemporary study

I had a lot of weird dreams. I dreamed I was a Powerpuff girl. It was kind of weird. Um...Oh I kind of woke up uh..kind of...like just startled, I don't know why....But I just kind of like...I don't know it wasn't really a dream. But I just kind of woke up panicked. But I don't know why. But that was kind of interesting. Um...I think thats it. I don't remember any specific details about my dreams. I just remember that one instance I woke up panicked. That's it. Im done.

Whose child was it — yours, someone you know, or yourself when young? What did the child need?

Jung · The child archetype

Jung described the “child” in dreams and myth as an image of what is not yet — a beginning, small and easy to overlook, that carries a future.

C. G. Jung, “The Psychology of the Child Archetype”, Collected Works 9i

Psychoanalysis Depth psychology

Freud began his theory with children’s dreams, which he found to be plain, undisguised wishes — a trip promised, a treat withheld.

Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams (1900), ch. III

East Asian custom Folk saying

In China and Korea (where it is called taemong), “conception dreams” before a birth are a living custom, often retold within families.

Stars

One star or a whole sky of them? Were they close, and did they make any shape you recognised?

Chinese historiography Classical text

The “Treatise on the Celestial Offices” in the Records of the Grand Historian maps the night sky onto the human world: groups of stars are named as officials of a heavenly court.

Sima Qian, Shiji, “Treatise on the Celestial Offices”

Roman philosophy Philosophy

Scipio, dreaming among the stars, finds them far larger than they look from Earth — the dream is a lesson in how small human glory is from far enough away.

Cicero, De re publica VI (“Dream of Scipio”)
