The Soccer Team Travels by Balloon

Not stated · Date unknown · contemporary study

Umm...You know what? I wasn't really asleep recently, but before I woke up, I was dreaming about our national soccer team. Umm...It was a funny dream. They were not having enough funds umm or they'd missed a plan...uh...um.... to go and play with [country] so they were using... Do you know the air ballons, like the...um...the ones people can use to go to the air? Yeah they were using those to go to [country] so it was just a funny dream. Hey ummm...Yeah so do you want to discuss with me what I was dreaming? Uh like what I told you.....Like trying to relate to.... Because like this one like that I just told you recently...It relates to what I was reading in the day about um....how our soccer team just umm...don't have enough fund to fund themselves to go and play with other teams, so they had to uh find money from other well wishers. Stuff like that. Do you want me to go ahead and discuss with you? Or are you just OK with the responses I gave you? OK great.

Uncertainty
Moderate — De-identified sleep-mentation report; the source does not establish a calendar dream date. Chinese title and translation are AI-generated editorial drafts, not human-verified. Explicit prior dream with waking-context discussion; do not remove solely because the speaker was not asleep at the moment of reporting. Source phrase “missed a plan” is unclear; do not silently change it to “missed a plane.”

Notes on the images in this dream from psychology, myth, folklore and semiotics. Each names its source.

Sky

What colour was the sky, and how far away? Were you under it, or up inside it?

Daoist classic Classical text

In the Liezi, King Mu of Zhou is carried up into a magician’s palace in the sky. He returns to find he never left his seat: “we were wandering in spirit,” the magician says — “why would the body move?”

Liezi, “King Mu of Zhou”

Roman philosophy Philosophy

In Cicero’s “Dream of Scipio”, the dreamer is taken up among the heavens and looks back at an Earth so small that Rome’s empire seems a speck.

Cicero, De re publica VI (“Dream of Scipio”)

A stranger

Did the stranger remind you of anyone, even slightly? What did they want from you?

Jung · Shadow, anima and animus

Jung read unknown figures as possible parts of the dreamer: a same-sex stranger may carry the shadow; an other-sex figure what he called the anima or animus. These are offered as lenses, not labels — and his gender framing reflects his time.

C. G. Jung, “Aion, ch. 2–3”, Collected Works 9ii

Homeric epic Classical text

In Homer, gods and dreams arrive in borrowed shapes: Athena visits Nausicaa disguised as her friend; Zeus sends a Dream to Agamemnon looking like Nestor.

Odyssey VI; Iliad II

Book

Could you read the book? Did it belong to you, or did someone hand it over?

Hebrew prophets Myth & scripture

In a vision Ezekiel is handed a scroll written inside and out with “lamentations, and mourning, and woe”, told to eat it, and finds it “as honey for sweetness”. Taking a text into the body is how the message is received. (A vision, not a dream.)

Ezekiel 2:9–3:3 (King James Version)

Christian scripture Myth & scripture

In Revelation John is told to take a little book from an angel’s hand and eat it: sweet as honey in the mouth, bitter in the belly. The same book is both. (A vision, not a dream.)

Revelation 10:9–10 (King James Version)
